Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), one of APAL’s International Partners, is the sole synthetic research organisation related to nuclear energy. It is JAEA’s mission to contribute to the welfare and prosperity of society through nuclear science and technology. The main research topic of the research group involved in APAL is about structural integrity assessment on reactor pressure vessel, piping lines and important components. They have been engaged in research and development of the probabilistic fracture mechanics methodology and codes since 1990's and have developed a probabilistic fracture mechanics code for reactor pressure vessel called PASCAL4.
